Mad Science - Halloween Party
For our 2018 Halloween party we decided to create a Mad Scientist Lab. We transformed our kitchen into a place Dr. Frankenstein would feel welcome to do his work in. The scene was the perfect backdrop for our party guests to take part in some wild and crazy experiments. It was an absolute hit!
Spooky Mad Scientist Lab
Shane, my husband is super creative and very crafty. He dreamed up spooky cupboard covers to look like a mad scientists lab. These were mainly made with cardboard and he added fun lighting elements with Christmas string lights. For the connector lighting over the range, he simply took pipe warmers, cut some rips into them and added flashing icicle lights through them to look like electricity. It looks complicated but in actuality, its a quick and easy craft.
For the main activity, we had a couple of different experiments the guests could interact with. I have to say, the “Boo bubbles” was the coolest and most awe inspiring experiment. The bubbles come out perfectly and can be held in hand. When the bubble pops it bursts into dry ice smoke! I ordered the “Boo Bubble” kit from Steve Spangler on Amazon. The kit comes with everything you need to create the dry ice smoked filled bubbles except for the dry ice, you can purchase that at any grocery store. If you can’t find the dry ice ask the butcher in the meat section, this department is often responsible for this product. In years past we have also made slime or stringy slime which is a big hit with the kids as well. To create a messy, spooky lab feel, I have picked up items here and there for years. The more hodge podge the better! The #1 decoration I feel is needed to set the scene are some science beakers and flasks. I add water with a different food coloring in each container. If you want to take it a step further, drop in a balloon LED light so the colorful beakers comes to life. Over the years I have added toy brains, small skeletons and body parts into jars. Pop in some skeletons into the display and spider webbing and you have the perfect haunted lab! I create levels and dimension by adding painted wooden crates. You can find things around the house to do this like upside down baskets, old books or even cake stands. The trick is to get creative and know its for Halloween decor, it doesn’t have to be perfect! Disheveled goes a long way in creating a spooky vibe. One of the many reasons this is my favorite holiday.
I always put out a table of treats for our party guests. Generally I go with store bought cupcakes that I order in advance and tons and tons of candy. Its Halloween after all, candy is an important element.
Classic Halloween costumes are always a fun and an easy way to go! For Frankenstein’s costume we ordered a kids tux off of Ebay. Tux rental companies often sell their out of commission Tux’s on Ebay. Once we received the tux, we made it disheveled by tearing it up and rolling it around in the dirt.

Who doesn’t love a creepy game of Halloween touch and feel!?! Containers filled all sorts of ghoulish concoctions that allow an imagination to make even simple cooked pasta feel freaky!
