Boo Bash - Halloween Party

Boo Bash - Halloween Party

Halloween is our family’s #1 holiday. We absolutely ADORE it and start planning our decor months and months in advance. I love it because it truly is a family affair, we all get involved and its a great way to spend time together. We think out all of the different rooms in the house and how we can create spooky scenes in each of them.

Halloween Boo Bash 2019 was definitely our grandest and spookiest party yet. Guests enjoyed a candy charcuterie skeleton, photo booth, a stroll through our spook alley under the stairs, fishing for ghouls in a graveyard and the greatest dance party our neighborhood has ever seen!

We are that house on the block, the one that takes it to another level. We love decorating the outside of our home. We want everyone who passes by our house to be haunted by spooky spirits, its fun for all! Each year on Halloween, Trick or Treaters tell us they get excited for the season as soon as they see our decor outside. Because we know it means so much to people, we ensure the scene is set every single night throughout the month of October.

Its important to create an extra SPOOKY vibe right from the get go. In our entry way, my husband built a 10’ tall skeleton complete with a heart and light changing smoke that shoots up directly behind him via a remote control. We ensure each new guest to our party (and trick or treater) are greeted by this skeleton in all of his colorful, foggy glory.

We have a birdcage wrapped chandelier that we change out the lights with flickering lights and hang a spider that drops and spooks all guests who walk by.

A fun element we added in 2019 was a candy charcuterie displayed in a 5’ skeleton. For more info on how we created this and the candy we used, please check out this post.

I like to set up a multiple little haunted areas in our home for guests to find and interact with like the ones pictured above above.

We have a unique situation where we have a long “L” shaped closet that runs under our stairs. Once a year we clear it out and make a “spook alley”. This is the highlight of the party, the kids cant get enough of taking turns walking down the long space to see what is hidden in the back section “the L part”. Sometimes we have a jumping spider back there, sometimes a graveyard and sometimes we have a spooky phone ringing that kids have to answer. The fun is in the anticipating of what they will find once they enter and take the stroll to the end of the closet.

I love creating a photo both area in my home at every party we host. I had recently painted a wall in our loft area dark green and had the wild idea to cut out some pink vinyl ghosts to create a haunting photo scene. It was a gamble if it would work out and not clash, and it was so much cooler than I imagined. I found this ghost SVG, this pink vinyl and used my brother scan and cut to cut out the ghosts. I purchased a photography light and I have to say, its one the best purchases I have ever made! It helped make the photos pop and its been borrowed multiple times by people who were throwing parties and wanted a great light as well. Highly recommend!

For the photo booth backdrop, adorable pink vinyl ghosts were placed against the dark painted wall with a Happy Halloween title. The pink was a fun and unexpected element which looked awesome in the light pink and dark green bonus room decor.

Over the years of throwing Halloween parties I have a few favorite must haves in my food spread, such as- candy (of course), as well as store bought cupcakes, Halloween peeps and little witch brooms, AKA pretzel sticks placed in the small flat side of peanut butter cups. My “TREATS” letters have been a favorite decoration and it was the easiest decor to create. I simply purchased 8” wood letters and spray painted them black.

Jensen my 6 year old son wanted to serenade guests by singing “Bohemian Rhapsody” by Queen. I have to say, seeing him sing so proudly and sweetly was a top highlight in my life!

As a kid my favorite school carnival game was the go fish game. I wanted to do a Halloween spin on the classic game and have kids fish in a graveyard for ghostly treats. I don’t know why I love this so much, but its totally adorable and fun to make.

Each year we look forward to throwing this bash and pulling out 22 years worth of Halloween decorations purchased throughout our marriage. Below we have listed similar items to create your own spooky bash!
