Easy Valentine's Day Decoration Ideas

I love to decorate for all holidays in our home. The kids love it too and I hope that by changing up the decor by holiday, I am creating fond childhood memories for our boys. I like to keep hallmark holidays easy, inexpensive and minimal so there isn’t too much to have to pack up and store at the end of the season.

One of my favorite decorating tips for any occasion is searching etsy for printables by holiday that I can simply print off and then add to a picture frame. A quick google search or dig through pinterest may even yield free printables. I pick out a few different prints per holiday and then send them to Walgreens or Costco to be printed. Its best to stick with Jpeg files if you are sending them out to be printed.

Because prints are inexpensive and easy to change out, I often switch up my prints each year to keep the look fresh. This V-Day I found two prints that I LOVE! Unfortunately they are no longer available on Etsy for purchase. I decided I wanted our Valentine’s decor to include non-traditional V-day colors adding in pops of salmon, green and blue.

I’m a fan of letter boards and found a pink 10x10 felt board on Amazon. I thought it would be cute to make a heart out of the letters. Starting from the top and balancing out each side as I went down, I added in random letters and symbols into the shape of a heart. The trick here was using rounded numbers and letters for the perimeter of the heart. Where there were gaps, I added in comma’s and periods. I am quite pleased with how it turned out!

I don’t always decorate the front door for Valentine’s Day but this year I had a lot of extra red, white and pink vinyl left over from another project I recently completed and wanted to put it to good use. My boys and I decided to hand cut about 20 hearts out of the vinyl to place on the front door. I have a fancy cutting machine that I could have used to make perfect hearts but for this project I wanted to include the boys and make it a family affair. By hand cutting the hearts it created a playful look and feel to it! Davis, my 12 year old son then took creative license in placing the hearts on the door and I think he nailed it! If your front door is white, I would suggest swapping out white vinyl for a pale pink or be daring and add in a pale blue!

Lastly, we added in a felt wreath that I recently found at Target and some Valentine’s Day pillow covers that I have had for years. Overall, I’m quite pleased with the finished look! And it was a family affair, which makes it even more special, made with Love! Want to complete this look? Please see the supply list below.
