Painted Rocks Hide & Seek

Painted Rocks Hide & Seek

Our current world situation with the coronavirus has quickly changed a lot of plans for everyone over the past few weeks. Here, Instead of planning parties and group celebrations, we are shifting our focus towards our family’s joy (and safety).

It can be a challenge to find activities at home with three kiddos at three different skill levels (ages 12, 9 & 4), but we found simply painting rocks has been something that we can all delight in doing. Plus it is really easy!!

A few weeks back I ordered this set of acrylic paint pens on Amazon. These particular pens offer a dual tip. The fine tip side is great for detailed design but didn’t hold up well to the force and vigor of my 4 year old’s artistic spirit although they kept the mess to a minimum, versus using a traditional brush method. If you would rather go that way, this set of acrylic paints has a nice array of colors. And these inexpensive nylon brush sets work well on the rock’s rough surface.

There are a lot of great designs ideas out there, but really they don’t require any artistic skill. Even if you just write a message or make funny eyes on a rock, it still is has the potential to catch someones eye and bring a smile to their face. We have a stone walkway in our yard and so we selected smooth rocks from there to paint. We took the colorful painted rocks and hid them around a nearby pond in our neighborhood.

Meri Meri Party and Gifts

A few days later our neighborhood facebook pages were sprinkled with mentioning and appreciation of our gesture that made the walks of neighbors more cheerful. For that reason, I feel this easy activity is the perfect project to do right now. It is a small dose of something uplifting for us to create that also can remind our neighbors that we are experiencing this rough patch together. We are all hopeful that our actions together will make an impact.

Now we are have painted another round of rocks and are eager to share them as well.

Sending love and healthy wishes…
