Father's Day "DAD" photo

Father's Day "DAD" photo

Years ago, when hunting for a fun Father’s Day gift for my husband, I came across this fun idea on Pinterest. On my next trip to the craft store I picked up a wooden letter “D” and “A” for a few dollars a piece, painted them black and took the photos of my daughters holding the letters, each with a “D” and together holding the “A”. I printed the photos in B&W and placed the photos in a three part photo frame spelling out “DAD”. It turned out super cute and my husband loved the gesture.

My husband hung up the frame of kid photos on the wall in his office and it ended up attracting a lot of attention from his coworkers. The next year I was again pressed for a sentimental Father’s Day gift and decided to make another set. Now my husband has 8 sets of these sweet photos proudly hanging in his office, but now our son holds the “A” in the middle. This Father’s Day tradition is one that becomes more loved with every addition.

Printing the photos in B&W isn’t essential, but it makes it easier when the kids aren’t in coordinating outfits, and then to look more cohesive when they are hung in groupings on the wall.

I have framed each of these in a simple black frame with a white horizontal matte with 3- 4X6 inch openings. Since I did not anticipate this being a tradition when I first started, I have struggled to find matching frames every year and so they do have some differences, but overall, they have a lovely effect when framed. In years past I have purchased them at Home Goods or Michael’s, but this year I am ordered the frame from Amazon.

Of course, this project isn’t limited to spelling DAD. We have also done some that say PAPA for my grandfather, and I think a MOM, GRAD, or even spelling age, such as ONE would be adorable as well. As long as you can get a photo matte with enough spaces, it works!
