Woodland Fairy Birthday Party

Wow! I just can’t believe that this party was four and half years ago! It was a really fun one to create! I vividly remember my sweet, five-year-old Janie coming downstairs on party day and becoming so elated to see all the party elements that had come together. This year she was really into Tinkerbell and her fairy friends, plus she is an animal lover, so this party was a great opportunity to tie those two things together.

There was an adorable collection of party printable and matching cuts on the Silhouette site that I quickly decided would be a great base for the party theme. Janie requested that we make the owls with purple gumdrops, which is her favorite color.

We lucked out and borrowed the mini fairy figures from a friend. We layered a strip of artificial turf from Home Depot over the top of my red polka-dot runner (remember it from the Minnie Mouse Party and Valentine’s Day Tea Party) to play off of the red polka dot toadstools.

Each place setting had a brown bag favor with a Silhouette Cameo “sketch and cut” sticker and closed with a paper toadstool glued to a clothespin. This design can also be found in the Silhouette library. Each child got to bring home a mason jar full of colorful homemade play dough in either white or red. We used cupcake liners under the jar lids to give them the matching polka dot look and included a Silhouette print and cut “thank you” tag. The print and cut collection also had water bottle labels that I added to repurposed Starbucks Frappuccino bottles (yet another element that we use over and over at our parties because they are sturdy and help us limit excess waste). We used small plastic craft bags and an owl Silhouette design as a candy favor, which added a finished look to the place setting. When we set the table up, we tried to mix the colors to optimize the colorful vibe of the party.

The final fun element for our guests was that each chair came with a set of wings. For this we actually ordered the wings from Dollar Tree and we were impressed with their speed of delivery and quality of the item.

We decorated the walls with pink and purple fairy cuts that were glittered and mounted to tulle puffs and hung around the party. We placed one in a display on the mantle so it looked like a caught fairy. We utilized some of the faux plants and greenery around the house to create a fairy garden feel and added elements like mosses and nuts from rustic potpourri to complete the look.

The cupcakes were a super easy party hack in that I went to our local Safeway and ordered plain vanilla cupcakes with red frosting and then added the white chocolate chips upside-down to make an adorable toadstool look. As much as I love and truly appreciate good baked goods, I found myself frustrated throwing away $4 cupcakes or whole slices of fancy cake because the kids took a small nibble and moved on. I now order plain and inexpensive grocery store cupcakes and embellish them myself with coordinating cupcake pics or candy toppings and then put them on an adorable cake stand to carry out the theme.
