Classic Minnie Mouse Birthday Party

Classic Minnie Mouse Birthday Party

We are highlighting a classic Minnie Mouse party we threw for our now nine-year-old on her second birthday. One of my favorite ways to add color to a partyscape is with fabric table runners. I personally love this because the fabric can be reused or repurposed and there are so many fun fabric options. In addition to the table runners, I made red polka dot pennant banners and have been able to use them many times since the party, especially for Valentine’s Day.

We kept it simple feeding a crowd with Hot Diggity Dogs & Mickey’s Clubhouse Sandwich Buffet. I made a pasta salad with red bowtie pasta, veggie tray, fruit salad, and some fun themed kid snacks. This was our first attempt at working with marshmallow fondant for the cake, which ended up easy to do and tastes great too.

In addition to fabric, to bring a pop of color to the tablescape, I love using painted crates as risers to give dimension to a party display. We have now collected them in different sizes and shapes, and use them for most party set ups in some fashion. The white and gray are probably the most commonly used colors, but they can also be used as risers under a tablecloth. Bonus - they also serve a dual purpose for storage! We have also gotten a lot of mileage out of our collection of glass-lidded containers that can be decorated with coordinating labels or ribbon for parties and are an easy way to add color to a party table.

The Minnie table centerpiece was created with a cardboard cut out and black tissue paper bunched in pieces and glued on (yes, just like we remember doing in grade school). I like the texture it gave the table, while making a nice focal point that helped to balance the colors.

I found a classic Minnie Mouse printable collection, and then created my own Minnie cut with my Silhouette machine for the cake topper and tissue paper decorations. The Minnie & Mickey ears were made using black headbands and hot gluing ears that were cut out of stiff felt material. The red and white polka dot ribbon came from Michaels. I just love how the photos turned out when everyone is wearing the ears!
