Love, Laughter & Happily Ever After - Bridal Shower
Looking back to four years ago to my cousin’s bridal shower…
Julie & Bill were married in August of 2016 and now have two sweet sons, but the day we celebrate her bridal shower was a lovely opportunity to bring families and friends together. Julie was such a laid back bride. She didn’t have any strong opinions or requests for her bridal shower and let me enjoy creative freedom as the hostess. I played off of the blue and green wedding colors although I varied the shades a little and incorporated country chic elements like metal and weathered signs, milk bottles and flowers since their wedding was at a lovely horse farm. I stumbled upon some napkins that said, Love, Laughter and Happily Ever After, which ended up providing the perfect inspiration for the event theme.
This bridal shower included friends of Julie’s but also family including mothers and grandmothers from both sides of the family, so it was fun to include some traditional elements. My girls were both flower girls in the wedding so they and several other children got to be a part of the shower. We included some activities they had fun participating in and then allowed them all to go up to the playroom after a while.
We made paper flower corsages for the the bride, mothers of the bride and groom and grandmothers of the bride and groom. I created the stickers and the flower petals with my Silhouette Cameo electronic cutting machine. We played more traditional party games like guess the spice. I collected spices from a discount grocery store and replaces the labels. Our more experienced cooks and bakers did quite well with that game. We played a bridal bingo, similar to this one found on Etsy. If you are looking to make shower games easy, just check out this printable game collection from Filterity on Etsy. Just be sure to have writing surfaces and pens ready for your guests as well as a few prizes (more than one per game in case there are ties).
The floral arrangement were all picked up at the local farmers market, the treats were handmade by mom and I with the exception of the French macrcoons which I purchased at Costco. We served a more traditional luncheon of salads and small sandwiches.
I think using really serving pieces, plates and glasses helps to elevate an event such as a bridal shower. I have a collection of simple standard sized glass plates from Cost Plus World Market and a set of glass cake plates I was give but that I use often. Each plate only costs a few dollars but they are easy to store, wash and much easier for guests to eat from that they have paid for themselves over time. They also work well with my china pattern so that I can mix and match when needed or combine the glass and china if I am working with a larger group.
I also have a collection of white serving pieces that I use often including white cake stands (here used stacked), white serving platers, tiered serving platers, and serving bowls for salads and snacks. Occasionally I will find a unique shape that matched a party style to add to my collection but I find that white is the easiest to use over and over.
