Leighton's Pastel Unicorn 5th Birthday

I recently had the opportunity to throw my sweet niece, Leighton, a mini 5th birthday party with our family. She is the sweetest kiddo with a big personality and is always making me laugh. She has been telling me for months that she loves unicorns and with my own girls growing out of this type of party, I was elated to style a little something for her.

We threw the party at my parents house on our way home from vacation so everything I used was either repurposed or decoration piece that could easily be brought along with us. For that reason I really only set up one party table, but I tried to make it a table that would wow the birthday girl!

I found the Meri Meri unicorn napkins and plates at Home Good a few months ago. They are slightly different than the ones they are currently selling but they do have an adorable collection you should check out because their party supplies are always adorable but also well made compared to items from the party store. I wanted to play up the iridescence in the partyware so I also used iridescent cake plates and straws from Dollar tree as well as a set of Unicorn horn party hats in the Spritz line from Target. Leighton loves purple so I opted to accent with a purple cup, and some additional striped purple cocktail napkins from Dollar General.

Over a year ago I found the star shaped silver iridescent favor bags at Michaels on clearance. They are from the Martha Stewart brand and coordinated well with the unicorn theme. I filled them with yummy unicorn gummy candies.

Some of the individual details of the events were simple but when put together they had a big style impact!

For the banners, I used a free printable from the Meri Meri site where they often promote Mini Makes. I cut out the pieces and then added strips of colored tissue paper that matched the mane in front of horn to give a little texture to the design. Once the unicorn were glues together I taped them to yellow crafters twine and turned 4 of the unicorns into a little banner.

I purchased the Happy Birthday banner printable with the perfect pastel colors inexpensively on Etsy. I printed it at 50%, cut them out and made a banner by stringing them. If I had to do over I probably would have made it at 100% to cover the larger space and added extra unicorns to match the length.

At the top I made a quick balloon garland with a collection of pastel balloons from past events. I used 5” and 11” clusters.

My very favorite aspect of this party was the iridescent party honeycombs that I found at Home Goods. I loved these because they came in three different sizes and secured with plastic and had a thing metal ring on the inside in case we needed to hang them. I will plan to use them again because they looked awesome in person.

We kept the dessert simple and used store bought cupcakes and added the Wilton unicorn horn sugar embellishments and then ribbon candy to make a colorful mane or rainbow. The kids enjoyed the gummy candies that I put in pretty glass dishes on the table.

I used a light blue tablecloth that my mom had and layered with a light blush colored table runner. I also added the star elements from a banner left over from the Meri Meri space party collection.

The blue fringe backdrop was also used at Jace’s Blippi Bash and Blairs Taco TWOsday party. We love these awesome backdrops from Glam Fete that can be custom made to match any color scheme.
