Lego Birthday Party
Catch My Party

We just celebrated Jensen’s 7th birthday with a Lego themed (social-distanced) driveway bash. The event was small, but the guest of honor had a great time!

With social distancing in place we opted for a smaller than usual outdoor set up. I love Lego as a theme because its pretty basic in colors, mainly primary, and decor can be simple using actual legos in the set up. For the balloon garland, we used the qualatex assorted colors mix in three different sizes, 5”, 11” and 16”. We hand tied the balloons with fishing line, you can find the instructions here. Do yourself a favor and pick up either a small handheld balloon pump or an electric one. I prefer electric because it goes much quicker. I generally make the garland with the 11” and 16” balloons and then add in clusters of the 5” at the end with balloon glue dots to give the garland more dimension.

I found four adorable party elements on etsy, the personalized cake banner, embossed napkins and the Lego straw heads. I also purchased a Lego font SVG file to personalize “Jensen 7” on a white T-shirt. I then used my Brother Scan And Cut to cut out his name using orange velvet iron on vinyl. If you do not have a machine to cut your own vinyl, here is a shop on etsy who will personalize shirts for you!.

Rainbow Unicorn Party Supplies

We have more Legos in our home than I think there are Legos in our local Lego store so a few years back I started buying Lego storage bricks. They are adorable, stack like real Legos, they do the job of storing and they made a perfect addition to the Lego Birthday party as decor. The Lego head is another storage bin and it worked for the set up.

For the cake and cupcakes I employed our favorite party trick- ordering the cake and cupcakes blank, frosted and ready to go from my local grocery store bakery (in Washington I use Fred Meyer). The cupcakes they will add rainbow sprinkles to and for the cake I just ordered a vanilla buttercream frosted cake with no decoration. I don’t have the time, skill or patience to make my own baked goods and I don’t think every occasion needs gourmet cupcakes and cakes. It really is a great way to make your tablescape look beautiful and the baked goods are delicious!

To decorate the cake on my own, I purchased 1 new pack of basic lego bricks so they were nice and clean (never been kid handled) and placed them around the rim of the cake and a small cluster on the top. I placed the customized name banner across the top and used a small gold #7 candle that I picked up at the grocery store when I picked up the cake. It worked perfectly!

We kept the refreshments light, cupcakes, cake and fruit punch Kool-Aid. I served the drinks in primary colored cups with yellow paper straws where I added the adorable Lego head straw toppers.

For the invite we wanted to do something fun that showed off what the theme was without really calling it out directly. We decided to fill up a box and have Jensen lay down in it and we surrounded his face in Lego’s. The smile is deceiving, he didn’t love the process of Lego’s being poured around his face but it was quick, we got the shot and look how cute it turned out!

I sent the picture off to Walgreens to be printed (4X6) and created the party details in power point using a slide template and images found in the search function. Once created, I printed them off on 4X6 shipping labels and stuck them to the back of the picture.
