Balloon & Paper Holiday Wreath
Balloons are totally having a moment right now! Despite being a little hesitant at first (Cindy can totally attest to that), I have really enjoyed learning to use this decor medium in new ways. Qualatex brand balloons helped me come around because they seem much easier to work with, have fantastic color options, and best of all, they are biodegradable. I have never really thought to incorporate balloons into my holiday decor, but thought that my kiddos would love this bright and playful balloon wreath. Stay tuned for more on the Gingerbread themed mini party I am creating for them.
Materials (see photo links to products below);
Qualatex balloons: 5 inch in wintergreen, mint pearl, ruby red, pastel pink and rose
Wintergreen colored card stock paper
Silhouette Cameo electronic cutter, 3-D Holly Wreath Design from Amanda McGee although these holly leaves could easily cut by hand.
Covered wire (I used 18 gauge paper wrapped stem wire because that is what I had on hand, although next wreath I make will use a wire wreath form)
Glue dots
Fishing line - to hang wreath
I connected several pieces of the stem wire through tight twisting to create a wire ring. To create the base, I inflated the green balloons and then let a little air out to make them round (about 3 inches diameter). I connected them into pairs by tying the ends together and around the wire so one balloon was inside and another outside of the hoop. When I pushed the balloons pairs together the balloons stacked in a way that gave the wreath dimension.
I used single balloons, inflated a bit less to fill in the empty spaces and to add the pinks and red ornaments. I used the glue dots to secure them in place. Glue dots make placement easy, but watch out if you need to replace a balloon and try and pull the glue off, some balloons will pop.
Lastly, I used my Silhouette Cameo electronic cutter to make holly leaves using the 3-D Holly Wreath design and then making them larger. I like this cut design because is has perforation that went from the bottom up 3/4 of the leaf. Folding on that line made the leaves look more realistic. I also added these with glue dots and like them best cluttered in pairs.
I hung the wreath to the wall with fishing line.
